Dr. Nina Silber is a professor of history at Boston University who specializes in the history of the United States between the mid-19th century and the early 20th century, including the period of the Civil War and Reconstruction.  Silber’s emphasis is in cultural and women’s history but she also teaches on the Civil War Era, the Gilded Age, and the American South, examining society and politics in these periods.  She is the author of numerous publications including The Romance of Reunion: Northerners and the South, 1865-1900 (1993), and Daughters of the Union: Northern Women Fight the Civil War (2005).  She has consulted on numerous Civil War and women’s history projects including museum exhibits. She also has served as Director of Women’s Studies at Boston University.
