How obvious are the beginning and conclusion of the summary? Quote each.

Does the summary reveal your peer’s ideas on the subject? How could the summary be more objective?

How well does the summary use the language of the student rather than that of the original author? Quote at least three attributive tags.

What reasonable audience would disagree with this thesis? What points do you expect the writer to bring up in the essay as a result of reading the thesis? Are those points clearly brought up?

Quote a point made about the summarized essay. Quote particulars in support of the same point. How well connected are the points and the thesis?

Does the response analyze the summarized text and show how the student has thoughtfully considered its ideas? What language from the response convinces you of this? Why?

Quote an example of the response reading both with and against the grain of the original text.

Quote an in-text citation associated with the summarized document. Is it perfect? What problems do you see with the works cited page entry?

Are the introduction and conclusion excellent? Why? What spelling, grammar, and organization problems do you notice?
